Stores Negotiations Update - 11/12/09
The Stores Negotiations Committee met with the Company Monday, November 9, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois.
After our last meeting in July, the Stores Negotiations Committee had expectations of a Company counterproposal. Federal Mediator Jake Kane placed that expectation on the Company at our last mediated session. Now, after a four month hiatus, the Company has no counterproposal to offer.
Our Negotiations Committee has been working and waiting patiently under rules imposed by the mediator. Once again, Mr. Kane echoed frustration over American Airlines inability to respond to our proposals with a counter.
The next session is tentatively scheduled for the week of Jan 19, 2010. Both parties are trying to secure earlier dates for December of 2009.
We advise our membership to be prepared for any eventuality that may result, up to and including, a declaration of impasse and a 30 day cooling off period. Your committee remains dedicated to securing an agreement through collective bargaining.
We thank all of our Members for your continued patience and support, both of which are essential as we try to secure a contract.
Technical Specialists Update - 11/12/09
The Technical Specialist Negotiating Committee met with the AA Negotiating Committee 11/09/09 thru 11/11/09. TWU Negotiating Committee: Howard McKinney, Gary Moffitt, Steve Luis, Tony McCoy and Don Videtich.
AA Negotiating Committee: Jim Weel and Bob Dubreuil and John Shelburg.
Both sides have signed tentative agreements (T/A’s) on Articles - 1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 43, 44, 45 and 46. At this time, it is the Negotiating Committee’s position that these T/A’s will stand for the duration of these mediated negotiations.
The Company and Union have reached understandings “in principal” on the following Articles: 3, 6, 12, 21 and 26. It is the position of the Union that these understandings may be converted to T/A’s upon satisfactory resolution of all other outstanding articles. In the event that an agreement cannot be reached on compensation, vacation, holidays, or any other outstanding article, any of these agreements “in principal,” may be withdrawn or modified by the Union.
Remaining open Articles - 4, 5, 7, 8, 34, 40, 41, 42 and 47.
The Union and Company remain deadlocked over the most significant issues - Pay, Vacation, Holidays, and Sick Leave. Mediator Jack Kane took steps affecting both the Company and Union to expedite these stalled negotiations.
The next mediation session is tentatively scheduled for January 25th 2010, location to be determined. You should be prepared for any eventuality that may result, up to and including declaration of an impasse and 30 day cooling off period. Your committee remains dedicated to securing an agreement through traditional negotiation, however, that may not be possible.
Your negotiating committee appreciates your continued patience and support, both of which are essential as we try to secure a work schedule and pay package acceptable to you.
M&R Negotiations Update - 11/12/09
The Negotiating Committees met with AA management in Chicago, Illinois November 9th – 11th.
AA management informed the Negotiations Committee and Mediator Jack Kane that the Union had not addressed the concessionary items presented in prior sessions. The mediator requested the Union to restructure its Negotiating Committee to a more manageable size. Kane then asked the company to involve the “appropriate management” personnel to assist in reaching an agreement.
Your M&R Negotiations Committee voted to reduce the committee size. The streamlined Negotiating Committee will keep the full Negotiating Committee apprised of all developments. The individuals selected by the full committee are - S. Gilboy, R. Harp, D. Lantz, S. Luis, L. Pike, T. Woodward, and B. Zimmerman
Any tentative agreements (T/A’s) reached will require a vote of the full M&R committee.
The next mediation session is tentatively scheduled for the week of Jan 11, 2010. A location has yet to be determined.
Members should be prepared for any eventuality, up to and including a declaration of impasse and a cooling off period. Your committee remains dedicated to securing an agreement through collective bargaining.
We thank all of our Members for your continued patience and support, both of which are essential as we try to secure a contract.
